BIO
Satoru Hamaya
Artist / Painting Conservator
Training undertaken in painting conservation and traditional painting techniques in Florence, Italy.
Artistic practice centers on the use of classical methods, including mixed techniques combining tempera and oil painting, and silverpoint drawing.
Specialization in the conservation field includes visual analysis methods employing ultraviolet and infrared imaging.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Oil Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tama Art University, Japan.
- Diploma in Restoration of Paintings on Canvas and Wood, Istituto per l’Arte e il Restauro “Palazzo Spinelli” (Florence, Italy).
- Certified Painting Conservator (Regione Toscana, Italy).
Professional Training:
- Apprenticeship under painting conservator Massimo Seroni at Studio Fortezza (Florence, Italy).
- Studied under artist Toshihiro Miki, learning extensively about the art of painting.
- Training in photography, development, and printing techniques under photographer Yasuyuki Matsutani.

Performed photographic surveys and related restoration work on artworks in corporate and private collections.

Conducted pre-treatment condition survey and photographic documentation of a Crucifixion (wood sculpture, 16th century) held by San Lorenzo Church, Florence.
Produced pre-treatment condition reports and photographic documentation of an oil painting by Lorenzo Lippi (17th century), also held by San Lorenzo Church, commissioned by Dambra Laboratorio di Restauro.
2008
Created photographic documentation of Italian classical paintings for terahertz spectroscopy research, commissioned by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Japan.
2007
